After eight years of recording artists in a century old barn nestled in a picturesque country setting, Dave King is set to produce a new music series entitled A Night At The Barn. "My initial intent with this series is to capture a view of the musical landscape happening here in the southern Ontario region with the hope of introducing these artists to uninitiated listeners and viewers around the globe. I'm looking to chronicle these events in the spirit of other musical series that have gone before such as MTV's Unplugged, Austin City Limits, Britain's Old Grey Whistle Test, Midnight Special, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, etc."

The series will be filmed and recorded on location in Barn Window Studio and will feature the finest in up and coming Canadian artists, some of whom King has had the privilege of working with in a record production capacity. These shows will be performed in this intimate setting in front of a live audience with the intent of inviting the rest of the world a view into the artist's process of writing, recording and performing their material.

If that was summer we have just experienced here in Southern Ontario, I guess it's now coming to a close! I am happy to report that the festival shows with Steve Strongman (Montreal Jazzfest, Mont Tremblant, etc...) were quite enjoyable and the new "Blues in Colour" cd is being very well received. Click here to check out the new video from the Montreal Jazzfest. On the studio front, I have had the great pleasure of producing a new friend's record. Her name is Kori Pop and she is truly amazing. She has documented some of the recording activities on her website, www.koripop.com. We are about half way through the process and hope to have something finished up by late fall.

I have also started to develop a new music series entitled "A Night at the Barn", which will initially feature some of the artists I have had the good fortune of working with out here in the barn. It will be a collection of filmed live performances in front of an intimate audience and will feature some background of the album recordings as well as insights into some of the song's development. We are also in the works of putting together a new and improved website. Please stay tuned for further details.

Cheers all and take care,
Dave

Hello everyone, just a few things to report as this fall season approaches. Over the summer, I was out doing some very cool festivals with Steve Strongman. We're still writng and recording for the new record of which I am producing. We're looking for a spring release on this one. Also on the production front, i've begun work with a great band from Burlington, Ontario called "Sandman Viper Command" . watch out for these guys. They're dynamite! Rob Szabo's new record "Life and Limb" is now out. I played on a couple of tracks and Steve Strongman and Rob recorded it out in the barn handling the production with John Oliviera on the dials. Also, on that note, the guys have been working with a very talented lass named Shelley Hayes for an upcoming solo release. I handled the drum duties on this one as well.

With the production complete, Matthew de Zoete's new record "Bottom of the World" was just mastered by Joao Carvalho and Matthew will be touring it this fall. As well, i've recently had the privilage of recording in the barn with "The Trews"  and Dave Rave for his latest set of solo recordings. Great lads and a pleasure to work with.

On the film and  tv front, the Life network is still playing "Matters of Life and Dating" starring Ricki Lake  which centres around dating life after breast cancer. The film features the song "Seeing in Colour" from my first solo release "Elevators".

The London Film Festival has just premiered an experimental film I co directed with Rick Hind based on a concept from Xavier Descarpentries dealing with the work of sci fi writer Phillip K Dick.

On the tv front i'm also playing drums on a few episodes from season two of "Rez Bluez" with a number of aboriginal artists from Canada. The animated series "Skyland" is still being run in Europe featuring music by composer Paul Intson. i played drums on the the theme.

I have a few interesting shows coming up this fall one of which is opening for the fantastic "Pete Best Band" at Hamilton Place Studio Theatre on Sept 20. The show features my good friends Bill Majoros, Dave Rave, Steve Strongman, Sandman Viper Command, and Graham King. Click here for details. The lads are currently promoting their super new album "Hayman's Green". Make sure and pick up a copy of this. You won't be disappointed!

Another show at Hamilton Place i'll be  appearing on is the telecast of the "Hamilton Music Awards" with Steve Strongman and Paul Intson. We're also doing our own show on November 15th as well.

That's about it for now folks. Please drop by and say hello at one or a number of events coming up in the next little while. All the best and I hope to see you soon, Dave

Matthew de Zoete's cd is finally finished up and set for a fall release. Check it out! As well as producing a number of new artists, i'm also trying my best to finish up a few new tunes of my own and i'm hoping to play some shows in the early fall. Please check back for listings on that one.

I'm playing drums a bunch with Steve Strongman over the summer as well as doing a few shows with the Foreign Films (Bill Majoros). Quite looking forward to getting out there and playing as it's been awhile . Let the games begin! cheers,     dave

February 12, 2008

Hello folks!  It's a typical Canadian February here. Lots of snow and plenty of cold to keep us moving rather quickly when we do brave the elements outside. I have been pretty much locked up in the barn over these past few months, finishing up a production on Matthew de Zoete's new record. Seeing some daylight now as it's almost finished. I'm also in pre production and writing with Steve Strongman for his new album. We will start recording in March, as well as playing a few shows in the southern Ontario region. I'll also be playing some solo shows as well so please check back to the live listings for details. Thanks, take care and  stay warm,  Dave

Hello folks,

Just returned from a western Canada tour with Steve Strongman & Paul Intson. Had a great time with the lads and many thanks to those who attended the shows. Currently preparing to go out again, this time with Mathew De Zoete and heading east. I'll be playing an acoustic set and then mounting the kit for Matthew's set. Also in the midst of recording Matthew's second solo album and things are moving along quite nicely. All the best and I hope to see you soon, Dave
